To be a leading national hub for teacher training that redefines higher education pedagogy, nurtures academic leadership, and builds a vibrant community of educators committed to lifelong learning, social responsibility, and scholarly excellence.
Established in 1987, as a major initiative in augmenting quality in Higher Education, the UGC promoted 66 Academic Staff Colleges. In continuation of knowledge enhancement, new strategies of governance for the promotion of innovations and creativity, the XII Plan guidelines have been proposed to transform the existing academic staff colleges into Human Resource Development Centres. However, the UGC renamed UGC- Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) as Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC).
The strength of this unit lies in the University of Hyderabad, which houses 12 Schools, 46 Departments, and over 400 faculty members in different disciplines that include Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences. The University is rated the best among Indian Universities by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD).
The university faculty is well-trained and/experienced both in teaching and research, and many of them have earned national and international recognition. The faculty generates a very high amount of extramural research grants. Science Departments, especially, have all the latest equipment to pursue research in upcoming and established areas of research.
The University has an excellent library, instrumentation and computer facilities. In addition to having access to all these excellent infrastructural facilities of the University, HRDC has a good library of its own with 3780 books, several journals and magazines and a good computer laboratory with 50 systems, which provides hands-on experience on MS Word, PowerPoint, Web Design, SPSS, e-Content, and Wikipedia. The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre-UoH plans, organises and implements Faculty Induction Programmes (FIP) for newly appointed college/university faculty members, Refresher Courses (RC) on various disciplines, Short-Term Courses (STC) on various topics, NEP Orientation and academic seminars, workshops and other programmes for serving teachers/researchers/heads of departments/principals/officers/non-teaching staff etc. All for faculty and non-teaching staff are conducted as per UGC rules and regulations.
OBJECTIVES OF MMTTC-UOH
- Achieving full human potential, developing an equitable and just society and promoting national development.
- Improving the quality of Education at all levels by infusing quality and excellence in our teachers, students and teaching-learning.
- To build respect for the balance and biodiversity existing in nature and adopt sustainability for life.
- To ensure holistic development of the teachers and learners with inculcation of ethics and human values as enshrined in Indian culture and familiarize them with the Indian Knowledge System.
- To ensure the role of faculty as active participants in institution and nation building.
- To empower faculty members as lifelong learners through continuous professional development.
PROPOSED OUTCOMES
- All faculty members will be sensitized and oriented on NEP 2020 to help make India a global knowledge superpower by imparting holistic education and imbibing the ideals of Bharatiya-centric ethics and human values.
- Teachers and learners will acquire the concepts of Indian Knowledge Systems (Bharatiya Gyan Parampara), integrate them into the curriculum, and apply them in real life for the advancement and creation of knowledge, including in Bharatiya languages.
- Learners will develop 21st-century skills and become reflective practitioners who innovatively generate and apply ideas while respecting biodiversity and sustainability.
- Learners will conduct quality research to solve contemporary problems through innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Learners will develop the capacity to integrate ICT tools into the learning process and become lifelong self-motivated learners.
- Faculty will contribute to institution building, society, and nation-building.
